HoRNet Butterfly

HoRNet Butterfly 1.0.6 is available, this update is free for owners of the plugin and includes:

  • Fixed random crash due to wrong buffer size for oversample

  • Fixed cracking sound in Logic Pro X

  • Fixed compressor release not being set correctly when used without sync

Audio mastering tool and channel strip

HoRNet Butterfly is an audio mastering tool designed to give you the tools for the final touches for your stereo mix or for mastering. It borrows the same high quality processing modules found in our SAMP, the master processor for Dolby Atmos.

Packaged into a single plugin you can find: an equalizer (using the same technology found in our TotalEQ) a compressor (using the same technology of our SyncPressor) a clipper and a limiter (using the same technology of our Magnus MK2). These processors guarantee a very high quality processing thanks to the intelligent oversampling designed to give the plugin enough bandwidth to process the sound without artifact at every sample rate. The order of the effect can be rearranged dragging their position in the top tabs control section and in the left part of the interface you can find a handy LUFS metering section that shows you the input and output levels with the standard “momentary”, “short term”, “integrated” and “true peak” readings.  With its four processing modules HoRNet Butterfly can be used to master any stereo song with high precision and great results.

The unexpected channel strip

While we designed the plugin to work on stereo busses there is nothing that prevents you from using it on mono channels transforming it into a powerful channel strip and of course if you don’t need a limiter o a clipper each module can be independently disabled to save CPU power, don’t worry though, Butterfly it’s also light on your cpu so you can add safety as many instances as you want.

Demo limitation

The demo is fully functional except for the fact that every now and then it will silence out, you cannot save parameter values with your session and the plugin will not respond to automation coming from the host.

Combined with the stock limiter of StudioOne6 I could easily reach loudness levels around -6dB LUFS without clipping. Very intuitive workflow as well.

Very good plugin for every music producer. If you need fast mastering or mixing, Butterfly is for you.

Very nice user interface. Easy fix to stop it from clipping – just lower the output volume while using a trustworthy metering plugin like T-RackS 5 Metering at end of mastering chain.

It's not really the best HoRNet plugin even though it could be. I really enjoy the EQ section, which is pretty much like the Total EQ. The compressor section is average but totally usable nonetheless. Lacks a simple makeup gain control and would totally benefit from a compressor type option like the one it's present on Multicomp (VCA, FET, Opto). Clipper is also ok, but no gain compensation. The limiter section is pretty much useless as it seems to lack a very simple ceiling control. Everything that goes thru it just clips, missing completely the point of what a limiter should do. That's really weird since Magnus has indeed a ceiling control. I'm pretty much disappointed but I'm hoping it improves in the future.

This is a wonderful one stop mastering solution and my first results make me very happy. I have written a little article on my blog because I like it very much, there you can also hear the result of mastering with this plugin. I'm sure there are some updates coming but the start is fantastic! The article in my blog is at: https://alfreds-music.blogspot.com/2022/08/a-butterfly-that-brings-summer.html

I have to say for this price this plugin is a must buy! The combination of Total EQ and SyncPressor is absolutely awesome!
My negative point is the limiter which is basically unusable. My DAW shows clipping when I push it. A ceiling control would be really useful!
