HoRNet Multicomp Plus MK2 the second version of our high quality and versatile plugin compressor. It features five compressor models (VCA, OPTO, FET, Console4K and VCA160) and an expander (based on the VCA model).
Multicomp Plus MK2 is perfect for every mixing need providing five classic compression algorithms, from the dry VCA to the very fat FET model and including two new models (Console4K and VCA160) based on timeless VCA designs, we have also re-designed the OPTO model to be more faithful to the classico optical compressors of the past.
If you need analog warmth Multicomp Plus MK2 provides a different emulation for every model and you can also adjust the intensity of the saturation. The analog emulation is the same as the one found in AnalogStage and includes an input transformer model too. If you don’t like the hiss that comes with analog you can turn it off.
You don’t have to worry about gain staging thanks to the internal makeup gain algorithm and the auto input and output gain adjustment that let you change from one model to another without being fooled by loudness change.
Each model can be fed with an external side-chain, and the side-chain has two filters, a high pass and a low pass, both filters are full range, working from 20 to 20000Hz.
HoRNet Multicomp Plus MK2 features the standard attack, release, ratio and threshold controls, and also provides a waveform display with both input and output signal so that is easy to monitor the processing that is taking place, also a visual representation of the gain reduction is provided.
Like every other HoRNet dynamics processor Multicomp Plus MK2 has a “RealGR” gain reduction meter. The meter moves at the speed of audio so you can “see” how fast the gain reduction is being applied, but the meter also has a peak hold function so that the maximum reduction applied in the last 3 seconds is always in front of you.
High quality processing is guaranteed by 2 or 4 times oversampling that drastically reduces the amount of aliasing distortion generated by the compression algorithm, a new “auto” option is provided that will always guarantee the best oversampling option for the model you have chosen.
A handy dry / wet knob allows you to create parallel compression with ease, the level of the wet signal is kept at the right spot by the adaptive make up gain algorithm.
To speed up you compression task and let you choose the best model for the task more effectively Multicomp Plus MK2 provides an auto threshold function that adjusts the threshold knob automatically to reach the desired gain reduction amount.

The demo is fully functional except for the fact that every now and then it will silence out, you cannot save parameter values with your session and the plugin will not respond to automation coming from the host.

The HoRNet Multicomp Plus MK2 has no copy protection, we don’t believe in copy protection, they are always cracked and they are annoying for the users, we all know you are not going to give away the plugin on the internet…

The graphs are easy to read and allow you to quickly try different models and reductions to find the right fit.
Please stop overlapping knobs and numbers. I try to turn the knob and it goes into number input mode.
I grabbed it while it was on sale for less than the cost of the cheapest pizza at my fave local pizza joint, excluding delivery fee!. 🤣 I like it. It's very versatile in terms of sound, and the graphical cues, especially that waveform display are extremely useful. As far as the downsides go, I just wish the "Analog Sat" and "Transformer" functions were more audible. They're really really subtle and I had to do a null test along with an A/B comparison (solo'd) in order to hear what these options were really doing. xD But at this discounted price point I have no reason to nitpick.
I love this VCA 160 especially on drums ! It's insane
the attack/release response of the opto model is far too fast – the other models seem to be about what they should be.
all of the knobs on this plugin are janky – the numbers glitch quite a bit – usuable but can be pretty annoying if you're not thinking about it.

Just got this recently, upon courtesy of team Hornet, and yet this is my honest personal review. Love the result 🙂 Im not saying it sound exactly like the hardware counter part, i have my fair experience with the hardware, but i just love the result of this plugin, and also in love with the automation function in this, i dont need to twist to get GR i wanted, straight away i tell the plugin how much GR i want, and the plugin get it done for me. 🙂 life is getting easier and easier, thank you Hornet!

I love your plugins. I use waves, and I really like the ssl natives, but I see total eq getting a lot of action, and I’m just introducing myself to multicomp plus mk2.

This compressor was a big surprise. It has that sound that I usually know from hardware…I'm not talking about non-linearities, I'm talking about that special compression behaviour that makes the actual gain reduction almost inaudible if the compressor is set correctly – you just get more presence and density. It was that character that set the plugins apart from the hardware in the past. No more. I don't know how Saverio made it but this plugin is a must-have! Highly recommended.
After searching analog compressor emulations to complement my original digital compressor for months, just find this and test the demo with others, bought it immediately!!
Sounds very good and its five classic compressor modes are very handy. Also there's subtle analog warmth, and convenient waveform visualisation not seen on most analog compressor emulations. This one can replace several analog compressor emulations, WOW !!
This would be great, but it won't let me do a release time of less than 50ms. Also, it could use a knee setting.
For me, attack and release times are too slow. No auto-release?
An excellent tool for the studio. Five compressor types in one. Each model has been carefully studied and they feel like the real thing. There is a general VCA model which sounds good in everything, a good FET model which is fast and aggresive like the original and an OPTO model which also works like a hardware.
I have all three kinds of compressor in hardware at the studio and I was happy to find that each model of multicomp had the character of the real gear.
Also the settings have been studied carefully, so the sound changes smoothly from one mode to another, making it easy to compare and choose what I need.
The last two models are emulations of the SSL 4K channel compressor and the DBX160. They are both great emulations. I was especially surprised with the 4K, because I've used the hardware a lot and I know its sound but I don't have one at the studio. So I was looking for a plugin and this is the best emulation I found. It is a great compressor for modern drum sounds, to make them really punchy, and of course it is a good model for any application. It is the reason I bought Multicomp mk2. Also the 160 is equally close to the original, from my experience. I will definitely use it a lot in the future.
Overall, the sound and feel is great and worth the price, because it is obvious that Hornet put a lot of work on this one and it is 5 very good compressors in one.

The auto settings knock up quickly to establish your sane baseline dynamics, then you can get creative. The envelopes, the saturation stages, the oversampling, the filter, and the flexibility of all these different models.

I don't have many compressors and I can tell you why I purchased all the ones I have, and it is usually because of a feature or a specific capability. When it comes to this compressor, after downloading the demo I bought it simply because it sounds good to my ears. With certain settings it moves beautifully. Funny because this unit is pretty expensive compared to other Hornet items, so I downloaded the demo being sure I was not going to purchase it.
This compressor has taken the place of a lot of compressors because of its versatility. I love the new look and features , I've used it on mixbus, smashbus & just on my regular tracks and it sounds amazing ! The new Console4k mode really sounds good as well the new VCA160 mode, 5 compressors in one…What more can you ask for ? And for the price ! There's no reason you shouldn't be trying this out.
