HoRNet Molla

A free spring reverb with a lots of tones

The HoRNet Molla (/‘mɔlːa/, the Italian word for spring) is a free spring reverb. It uses the same algorithm as its bigger brother (the HoRNet SpringVerb) to recreate the complex physical interactions between the springs and the sound in a spring reverb.

A free spring reverb with a big background

In a spring reverb, the reverberation effect is generated through the electro-mechanical stimulation of one or more springs under different tension. The complex oscillations of the springs are then converted back into an electrical signal by pickups.

The spring reverb, born alongside plate reverb in the 1930s, was initially a means to create artificial reverberation. Hammond organs popularized this type of reverb due to its compact size. Consequently, many guitar amplifier manufacturers adopted spring reverbs. Despite its metallic and dark sound, which differs from natural reverb, it has become a staple in recording history for various musical genres.

Similar to SpringVerb, we approached recreating this distinct sound by combining research with our unique twist. We’ve packed the attitude, sound, and flexibility of SpringVerb into a smaller, easy-to-use format.

With Molla’s carefully selected parameters, you can achieve your unique reverb sound faster and more easily than ever before—even with just one spring! Adjusting the intrinsic vibration time allows you to create short or long, cavernous reverbs. Furthermore, you can explore the Density parameter, which transitions from a natural-sounding reverb at 100% to a metallic one at 0%.

Of course, we also included a wet/dry parameter for blending your original sound with the reverb. Additionally, a lovely spring lights up when activated by the sound you feed into it.
