The complete bass channel strip
HoRNet L3012 is an advanced channel strip plugin designed specifically for bass players, providing all the essential tools required to enhance and shape your bass sound with ease. Developed in close collaboration with the talented Italian bassist Lusi, this plugin is tailored to meet the needs of bass players in both studio and live settings. Whether you’re mixing a recording or performing live, the HoRNet L3012 ensures that your bass tone is always dialed in to perfection.
Analog Tube Preamp Section: The Heart of the Sound
At the core of the HoRNet L3012 is an analog tube preamp section, which is the foundation for the plugin’s rich and dynamic sound. This section is designed to provide warmth, depth, and character to your bass signal. The preamp can be overdriven to add a certain grit and harmonic distortion, perfect for bass players who want to add some edge to their tone, whether in a subtle or more aggressive manner.
The preamp section can be easily adjusted to suit different playing styles, ranging from smooth and clean to punchy and saturated. This versatility ensures that the HoRNet L3012 can handle a wide range of musical genres, from jazz to rock, funk, and metal, offering a powerful tonal palette for any bass player.
Bass Boost Circuit: Shaping Low-End Power
Following the analog tube preamp, the HoRNet L3012 features a smooth bass boost circuit, specifically designed to enhance the low-end frequencies of your bass sound. This circuit provides the extra weight and punch that is often needed to cut through a mix while maintaining a natural and musical feel. By focusing on the low-end, it ensures that your bass retains its fullness and richness without becoming muddy or overbearing.
This bass boost circuit is particularly useful for bass players who want to add more depth and presence to their sound, giving their instrument a solid foundation without sacrificing clarity or definition. Whether you’re playing a deep, warm groove or a tight, punchy riff, this circuit can help you achieve the ideal bass tone for your performance or production.
Transient Shaper: Enhancing Attack and Clarity
One of the standout features of the HoRNet L3012 is its built-in transient shaper. The transient shaper is designed to help enhance the attack and clarity of your bass sound, allowing the instrument to cut through the mix more effectively. This is particularly important for bass players who want to ensure their sound is well-defined, especially in busy mixes where the bass may otherwise get lost.
The transient shaper allows you to shape the initial transient of your bass notes, giving you more control over how your bass interacts with the rest of the track. Whether you want to emphasize a more percussive, punchy attack or soften the transients for a smoother, more rounded tone, this feature provides a level of control that is crucial for fine-tuning your bass sound.
Comprehensive EQ Section for Total Sound Shaping
The HoRNet L3012 also includes a comprehensive set of equalization tools, allowing you to sculpt the perfect sound for your bass. The plugin features a high-pass filter and a low-pass filter, which allow you to cut unwanted frequencies at both the high and low ends of the spectrum. These filters are crucial for cleaning up the bass sound and ensuring that it fits well within the overall mix.
In addition to the filters, the HoRNet L3012 includes a low shelf, a high shelf, and a fully parametric mid band. The low and high shelves allow you to adjust the bass and treble frequencies, while the parametric mid band gives you complete control over the resonance of the midrange. This combination of filters and EQ controls ensures that you can shape the bass tone to fit the context of any musical style, from deep and mellow tones to sharp, biting attacks.
The parametric mid band is particularly useful for sculpting the resonance and character of the bass sound, helping you eliminate unwanted honkiness or boxiness in the midrange. This level of precision ensures that your bass always sits perfectly in the mix and sounds natural and dynamic.
Compressor: Ensuring Dynamic Control
The final stage of the HoRNet L3012 is a compressor, modeled after a renowned VCA compressor that is frequently used for bass processing. This compressor provides dynamic control, ensuring that the bass sound remains balanced and consistent throughout the track. It smooths out any dynamic spikes while maintaining the punch and power of the bass.
The compression provided by the HoRNet L3012 is gentle yet effective, making it ideal for preserving the natural feel of your playing while still keeping the overall dynamics in check. Whether you’re working with fingerstyle, slap bass, or pick playing, this compressor adapts to the nuances of your playing, offering transparent and musical compression without making the sound feel squashed or lifeless.
Intelligent Oversampling for Optimal Sound Quality
To ensure the best possible sound quality, the HoRNet L3012 employs intelligent oversampling. This feature adjusts the oversampling rate based on the settings of your DAW. The oversampling is set to 4x at 44.1kHz and 48kHz, delivering superior sound clarity with minimized aliasing. At higher sample rates, the plugin automatically switches to 2x oversampling, ensuring that the sound remains clean and high-fidelity at all times.
This intelligent oversampling allows you to enjoy the benefits of analog modeling without introducing any unwanted artifacts, ensuring a smooth and professional-quality sound throughout your mix.
User-Friendly Interface with Hardware Acceleration
The HoRNet L3012 features a fully vector-based GUI, which is designed to be clear, intuitive, and easy to use. The interface is hardware-accelerated, ensuring that the plugin runs smoothly and efficiently on your system, regardless of the screen resolution. This makes it ideal for use in both studio settings and live performances, where visual clarity and fast access to controls are essential.
The plugin’s interface is organized in a way that makes it easy to navigate through all of the various sections, whether you are adjusting the preamp, shaping the bass frequencies, or applying compression.
Presets by Lusi for Immediate Inspiration
To get you started, the HoRNet L3012 comes with two custom presets created by Lusi himself. These presets showcase how the plugin can be used with two of the most popular bass models, offering a great starting point for any bass player. To ensure optimal performance, all you need to do is ensure that the input meter hits the yellow zone, and you’re ready to go.
Conclusion
In summary, the HoRNet L3012 is a powerful and versatile channel strip plugin designed specifically for bass players. With its rich analog tube preamp section, bass boost circuit, transient shaper, comprehensive EQ controls, and transparent compression, this plugin provides all the tools necessary to shape the perfect bass tone. The addition of intelligent oversampling and a hardware-accelerated GUI makes it an ideal choice for both studio and live performance settings, delivering high-quality sound and performance at all times.
Whether you’re a professional bassist or a home studio enthusiast, the HoRNet L3012 offers everything you need to achieve a world-class bass sound. With its intuitive interface and custom presets, you’ll be able to craft the perfect tone in no time.

Copy protection
The HoRNet L3012 has no copy protection, we don’t believe in copy protection, they are always cracked and they are annoying for the users, we all know you are not going to give away the plugin on the internet…

This Bass plugin is not just good, it is exceptional. I take my sound very seriously when mixing a song. This is a great plugin, worth every penny…
My go-to plugin on the bass channel… amazing sound and easy to use.
Great job HoRNet!!!
Purchased this one not long ago. Is stable and works well. What you see is what you get. A channel strip for bass, but could technically work on various other instruments as well. Not a bad price either. For some reason though, it in its own folder named "HrNt" in the plug-in select menu in my DAW (Pro Tools) when all my other Hornet plug-ins are in the folder named "Hornet." I would prefer it was in the latter with all the rest instead of its own folder, so maybe in a future update that can be fixed? That is a very minor issue though. Overall happy with my purchase. Cool plug-in.
