HoRNet HA2A is a faithful recreation of a very famous opto compressor made of tubes, transformers and a very peculiar combo of a photo resistor and an electroluminescent panel.
We modeled a real piece of gear which is found in the studio of our friend Flavio aka TheBuildzer, we measured the response of the unit, the transfer function, the attack and release behavior and put everything into this new plugin which improves the OPTO model in Multicomp Plus MK2 and recreates the sound of this historical compressor.
Recreating the real sound of the compressor down to tubes and transformers was not enough so we decided to bring this standard compressor into the 21st century and we added our touch including input and output VU meters, auto input gain with up to 6VU target level, a button to link input and output (so you don’t have to tweak anything while compressing), automatic makeup gain for the compressor, automatic compression setting with peak reduction target, dry and wet separate controls for parallel compression, mode selection (stereo, dual mono, mid or side) and a bypass button that lives inside the analog emulation (so you can use the plugin as a tube saturator if you want).
To make the unit sound even more real we added our analog emulation technology simulating the input transformer the tube amplifier and the output transformer, of course you can disable the analog emulation if you want a clean and modern sound.
To guarantee the best possible quality we added our intelligent oversampling to the algorithm so that the oversampling amount is chosen depending of your sample rate if it’s lower than 192KHz.
The user interface is of course completely vectorial and hardware accelerated (using OpenGL or Metal) and it can be resized at will so it looks good on every monitor and screen size.
Demo
The demo is fully functional except for the fact that every now and then it will silence out, you cannot save parameter values with your session and the plugin will not respond to automation coming from the host.

Copy protection
The HoRNet HA2A has no copy protection, we don’t believe in copy protection, they are always cracked and they are annoying for the users, we all know you are not going to give away the plugin on the internet…

I was tested this cool compressor. Great work, and capabilities. But CPU Usage (M1 Silicon) is seriously high between same emulations of LA-xx (up to from 4x to 8x times). Hopes, Hornet team make their cool plugins – more cpu friendly:)

The best emulation I originally sought was the UAD emulation of the LA-2A, but it proved to be prohibitively expensive. Fortunately, I stumbled upon the Hornet Audio's alternative, which was available at a remarkable 90% discount, reducing its price from $20 to just $2. I am delighted to report that this acquisition has not left me disappointed. I would appreciate some enhancements to the graphical user interface (GUI) for an even more satisfying experience. One big plus of this plugin is: It works as a compressor and as a limiter with the ability to process in Stereo and in M/S.
I'm somewhat of an LA-2A plugin whore. I have a bunch of them. When HA-2A came out I just had to have it LOL!
Well, it has quickly become my fave despite its price. Never judge a piece of software by its price! Reason being is, it has very powerful gainstaging controls that the others don't have. The interface is clean and the sound is great.
The bypass mode is a very nice bonus that could have been released as its own plugin! Don't pass on this one.
Wow Saverio, I think your HA-2A sets a very high new bar for compressor emulations. The emulation of the hardware itself is stellar, but the super special magic HoRNet sauce pushes the HA-2A into a category all its own. Would love to see you apply the same concepts to other much loved compressor emulations. So well done, congratulations!

Wonderfull emulation of an LA-2A compressor, gives drums this small amount of "KLACK"that it sits right in the mix. Compared with other LA-2A like emulations it´s very musical and analog where other plugs lacks a little bit in harmonics, HA2A has more fundament. If you still own this as reference limiter and it´s three counterparts SN01G, TLs-1295 and Dirty LA you don´t have to buy this crazy expensive emulations from other companies.

I love the way this compressor sounds, I have the UAD ones but this one has a special warm, it sounds more hardware to me, and all the autogain options make it easy to make anything sound good. Thank you very much! Hornet always making excellent plugins

Good emulation, but
There is a bug that settings are not reflected immediately.
When the reduction value is increased, it takes time to reach the set value.
