HoRNet HA2A 1.1.2 is available, this update is free for owners of our opto compressor plugin and includes:

  • Fixed plugin not being correctly initialised in Logic on Apple Silicon

Bring a classic into the 21st century

HoRNet HA2A is a meticulous recreation of a renowned opto compressor, built with tubes, transformers, and a unique combination of a photoresistor and electroluminescent panel.

We took inspiration from a real unit found in the studio of our friend Flavio, aka TheBuildzer. By measuring the unit’s response, transfer function, and attack and release behavior, we captured every detail and incorporated it into this new plugin. This effort not only enhances the OPTO model in Multicomp Plus MK2 but also faithfully replicates the sound of this historic compressor.

A classic opto compressor brought into the 21st century

While recreating the original compressor’s sound, down to the tubes and transformers, we also brought it into the 21st century. We added several modern features, including input and output VU meters, auto input gain with a target level of up to 6VU, and a button that links input and output, allowing you to compress without constant adjustments. Additionally, the plugin includes automatic makeup gain, an automatic compression setting with peak reduction targeting, separate dry and wet controls for parallel compression, and mode selection (stereo, dual mono, mid, or side). A bypass button, integrated within the analog emulation, lets you use the plugin as a tube saturator if desired.

To make the unit sound even more authentic, we included our analog emulation technology, which simulates the input transformer, tube amplifier, and output transformer. For those who prefer a clean, modern sound, the analog emulation can easily be disabled.

Ensuring the highest possible quality, we integrated intelligent oversampling into the algorithm. The oversampling amount automatically adjusts based on your sample rate, as long as it’s lower than 192KHz.

The user interface is entirely vectorial and hardware-accelerated, utilizing OpenGL or Metal. It’s fully resizable, ensuring it looks great on any monitor or screen size.

Demo

The demo is fully functional except for the fact that every now and then it will silence out, you cannot save parameter values with your session and the plugin will not respond to automation coming from the host.

Features

  • Faithful sound recreation of this famous compressor
  • Input and output VU Meter
  • Automatic input gain
  • Linked input and output gain
  • Mode selector between stereo, dual mono, mid and side
  • Auto gain makeup for the compressor
  • Automatic gain reduction setting
  • Dry and wet level controls for parallel compression
  • Analog emulation and hiss
  • Bypass that keep the analog engine active (so you can use the plugin as a tube saturator)
  • Intelligent oversampling that allows the plugin to always work internally at 192Khz
  • Vector user interface which is sharp on every resolution
  • Freely resizable user interface
  • Apple Silicon native support (except for AAX)
  • macOS (10.11 and later) and Windows (Vista and later) support.
  • 64-bit on Mac and Windows.
  • Audio Units, VST, VST3 and AAX format.

Copy protection

The HoRNet HA2A has no copy protection, we don’t believe in copy protection, they are always cracked and they are annoying for the users, we all know you are not going to give away the plugin on the internet…

So simply download the plugin and enjoy your recordings!

Today I was testing some compressors and this one sounds great! Beautiful warmth when used mastering your song. Very good color to the sound. I sure can recommend this one!

Aleksandr Kalashnikov says:

I was tested this cool compressor. Great work, and capabilities. But CPU Usage (M1 Silicon) is seriously high between same emulations of LA-xx (up to from 4x to 8x times). Hopes, Hornet team make their cool plugins – more cpu friendly:)

Peter simeon Jr. says:

i am new to this type of plugin, it sounds great I love how the hornet plugins look this is my go-to compressor most of the time. It's great stuff

Popa Stefan says:

The best emulation I originally sought was the UAD emulation of the LA-2A, but it proved to be prohibitively expensive. Fortunately, I stumbled upon the Hornet Audio's alternative, which was available at a remarkable 90% discount, reducing its price from $20 to just $2. I am delighted to report that this acquisition has not left me disappointed. I would appreciate some enhancements to the graphical user interface (GUI) for an even more satisfying experience. Thank you, Hornet, for providing an affordable and quality solution. Sending my regards from Romania! 🇷🇴🎶

I love this wonderful piece of engineering !
This compressor sounds very good !
One big plus of this plugin is: It works as a compressor and as a limiter with the ability to process in Stereo and in M/S.

Adam says:

I'm somewhat of an LA-2A plugin whore. I have a bunch of them. When HA-2A came out I just had to have it LOL!

Well, it has quickly become my fave despite its price. Never judge a piece of software by its price! Reason being is, it has very powerful gainstaging controls that the others don't have. The interface is clean and the sound is great.

The bypass mode is a very nice bonus that could have been released as its own plugin! Don't pass on this one.

Bill Farr says:

Wow Saverio, I think your HA-2A sets a very high new bar for compressor emulations. The emulation of the hardware itself is stellar, but the super special magic HoRNet sauce pushes the HA-2A into a category all its own. Would love to see you apply the same concepts to other much loved compressor emulations. So well done, congratulations!

非常棒我很喜欢

Gorka says:

Sounds really really good!!
God job, thanks!!

Richard Piontek says:

Wonderfull emulation of an LA-2A compressor, gives drums this small amount of "KLACK"that it sits right in the mix. Compared with other LA-2A like emulations it´s very musical and analog where other plugs lacks a little bit in harmonics, HA2A has more fundament. If you still own this as reference limiter and it´s three counterparts SN01G, TLs-1295 and Dirty LA you don´t have to buy this crazy expensive emulations from other companies.

Mohamed Chérif Lahoubi says:

i have used so many emulations from waves UAD …. but seriously it sounds great thank you for the work !

Roberto Martínez García says:

I love the way this compressor sounds, I have the UAD ones but this one has a special warm, it sounds more hardware to me, and all the autogain options make it easy to make anything sound good. Thank you very much! Hornet always making excellent plugins

LiquidOne says:

I have lots of compressor plugins and nearly didn't buy this. But I'm so glad I did. Beautiful sounding compressor and my new go to. Thanks Saverio.

yasuo ogawa says:

Good emulation, but
There is a bug that settings are not reflected immediately.
When the reduction value is increased, it takes time to reach the set value.
