A dynamic equalizer to remove resonances

HoRNet DynEq is a dynamic equalizer plugin, a tool specifically designed to apply a precise equalization curve that adjusts proportionally to the intensity of the input signal.

Although this concept may initially seem complex, consider how often you encounter a track with a particular resonance, like a bass guitar string that stands out more than the others. In such cases, using a standard EQ might remove too much of the frequency, but a dynamic EQ addresses this by applying the filter only when the signal intensity exceeds a certain threshold.

DynEq employs a straightforward yet effective approach to this type of processing. It offers one parametric band of equalization with standard controls—frequency, gain, and Q. These controls allow you to filter out specific resonances or boost a frequency that might be lacking in the track. If you need to manage multiple bands, you can simply add another instance of DynEq after the first one, and so on. We intentionally kept this approach simple to provide a plugin with minimal controls, letting you focus solely on the sound.

Auto features to set your Dynamic Equalizer

Additionally, DynEq incorporates our usual range of “auto” features into the standard dynamic equalizer controls. For instance, we’ve included an auto-speed toggle and an auto-threshold function.

The auto-speed feature syncs the attack and release of the internal envelope detector, which is used to assess the input level, with the host tempo—specifically to a 1/4 note. This makes it easier to quickly dial in the correct speed.

Auto-threshold is more sophisticated. It compares the specific frequency you are targeting with the input signal and dynamically adjusts the threshold so that only the difference between the input and the targeted resonance is considered. This allows you to change the input gain without impacting the processing.

Once the sidechain intensity surpasses the processing threshold, the difference between this setting and the sidechain is calculated and used to scale the gain applied by the EQ section. This creates a very smooth and dynamic effect that enhances the signal with maximum transparency.

Demo limitation

The demo is fully functional except for the fact that every now and then it will silence out, you cannot save parameter values with your session and the plugin will not respond to automation coming from the host.

Copy protection

The HoRNet DynEq has no copy protection, I don’t believe in copy protection, they are always cracked and they are annoying for the users, we all know you are not going to give away the plugin on the internet…

So simply download the plugin and enjoy your recordings!

This plugin does its job

Love this plugin! It is so useful! Can it please be updated for M1 compatibility and maybe have a stability update for more current OS? Missing it in my tool box a lot!

Gerson says:

excellent complement, solves problems quickly

Good plugin inherently. But the VST plugin does not work properly in Cubase 8 on the PC system (Windows 7), and also does not work properly on Mac (High Sierra 10.13.2) in Cubase 9.5. And after a while the DAW crashes. Only AAX plugin works correctly in Pro Tools. Really looking forward to update this plugin!

Looking for a great multiband expander and compressor… buy this one and then start adding instances on a track in mixing or mastering and see what happens. This plugin works on any style of music and is better at sculpting sound than any EQ or any other dynamic EQ. After buying just about every plugin on the planet to fix issues this one plugin seems to add just the right resonance and feel and takes away all the garbage while leaving your sound stage open and deeper than you can believe. If i have one secret weapon now this is IT!!! AMAZING… the Price? Ridiculous and something like this i'd pay tons more money for knowing what it can do. Five stars doesn't do this one justice.

Auto Threshold is no joke. Quiet or loud, an instance of DynEq makes a huge difference. In the few projects I've worked on since I purchased this last week, I've found myself not spending as much time carving out my eq curves (especially in my vocal tracks). This little plugin is very musical, significantly reduces resonant frequencies, and reduces my time problem solving these issues. 5/5 stars considering what it does, 8/5 considering its price!
