Realtime chord, tempo and key finder plugin

HoRNet SongKey MK3 is the all new third version of our key finder plugin, but it doesn’t do simple key recognition, it’s also capable of detect the chord being played and the song tempo. We thought it was a good idea to also add MIDI input (to be able to detect chords and key of midi tracks) and MIDI output for the recognised chords so you can record them and edit the track for your own needs.

At the core of SongKey we find the “chromagram” (a level representation of the intensity of each note playing in the song) but we spent a lot of time creating a more reliable and cleaner chromagram than the one of the previous version.

The data extracted from the audio is used to feed an artificial intelligence unit that is used to detect each chord, and SongKey MK3’s chord detection extends to sevenths, fifths and suspended chords.

The new key detection engine builds on the chromagram and expands it with another unit based around a statistical chord progression model that analysing the chord sequence is able to understand the key of the song, this has the great advantage that the key recognition is always realtime so you can change song without the need to reset the plugin, or if the song changes key in some part of it, the plugin will simply be able to detect the new chord sequence and follow the key change.

The all new GUI is completely vector drawn and resizable, so it’ll look good on any screen and can be made smaller or bigger as needed.

SongKey is very useful in those situation in which you don’t have an instrument at hand to find out the key of a song you are working on or if you are a DJ and want to make a mash up but you don’t know in which key a song is written. The chord detection feature gives you insights on the chord progression of the song so that you can better design your bass lines and pads.

If I enable this plugin, cubase lags so much! Freezing a lot of times. :/
I have not problem with MK2. But with MK3 I am freezing all the time :/
I don't know if this happen because of the plugin or because my computer so I will rate with 5 stars because this version is very helpful.

Praxis Music says:

I was really excited to see a new version of this plugin came out, because I really want a key detection plugin for my Ableton Live sets.
Having a plugin like this would make improv sets really easy.
But, I was disappointed that It doesn't even work in very low buffer rates, as it takes a HUGE amount of CPU, making live improv sets impossible when using audio this plugin.
But, when I changed my buffer rate to 512 samples, and it worked, the plugin did not even get the key of my track correct, and it couldn't count the tempo well, either.

Now, all that being said, I really want this plugin to work.
I LOVE the idea of this plugin, and it would be EXTREMELY helpful to me, if it worked. I'm still keeping my eye on this plugin for fixes.

nice and usefull plugin. works with reason 10. One small minor, it's a bit cpu hungry. So check the notes and than disable the plugin if all is in tune.

Joseph Sorensen says:

This was an absolute instant buy. There is nothing else on the market that does this type of harmonic/pitch detection as well as HoRNet – and I'm dumbfounded at the price-tag being so low.

Sami Tahrraoui says:

Bought this when ZDS (Zombie Disco Squad) recommended it in his Faderpro tutorials. Tested it myself to see if the detection was accurate and very happy it does. Lifesaver!

not match BPM

I want to download this program, it helps me to produce good music

Ray LaManna says:

I rarely write reveiws but, this is an awesome plugin! I have about 15 yrs of production and mixing experience. I am the Hip Hop Production professor at Austin Community College. I use Cubase 10.0.2 and Songkey MK3 without any issues. I'm not having latency issues, and the cpu usage is minimal.
Pros : The plugin reads the Key and Chords of single instruments very well. For example, a rhodes piano. However, it struggles to read loops with multiple instruments playing different notes. There could be a number of reasons relating to theory why this is happening.
Cons: The BPM is not accurate at all. Luckily Cubase has a BPM calculator.
All in all this is an excellent plugin at an amazing price!

Kijan says:

Bought it and disliked it. The note-detection is simply useless and what's worth is that I am now waiting for 2 weeks that hornet plugins even replies to my request to refund me. Cannot recommend

Robert Hutchins says:

I rarely write reviews but, I am very disappointed that HorNet has not corrected an on going issue since (05/21/19) the release of the new SongKey MK3 plugin. The plugin is unusable for me due to an issue that cause Cubase Pro to blacklist it when I try to reinstate the plugin as recommended by HorNet support the plugin crashes both Cubase Pro 10.0.20 and 9.5.41. I cannot recommend buying this plugin at this time due to bon going issue.

Bilaal Porter says:

I want to like this plugin, but I cannot use it in Ableton Live 10.1 because it crashes immediately on start-up. I've tried to use it in Maschine, but it does not even show up on my plugins list. I downloaded the Songkey MK3 3.0.1 "update but Ableton still crashes, I have to deactivate the plugin in order to use my DAW. I have cleared, caches, re-installed Ableton Live, and it still does not work. I used Songkey MK2 before, and had no problems with it, I just want MK3 to work! I cannot believe that I purchased a pluginMay 2019 that is still unusable as I write this (July 2019). I am very disappointed that more has not been done to resolve this issue; there are others who are having the same issues, HoRNet has great plugins- I just cannot recommend Songkey MK3 to anyone at this time until it is fully fixed!

not recognise chords at all

Fabio Lenzi says:

Nice, but isn't a professional Plugin. Works not perfectly. Good for average bpm and keys.

chris moon says:

Latest version 3.3 crashes latest version of Protools on Windows every time – cannot get it to load or work – need it, want it … can't get it to run, ever.

john Patton IV says:

Latest update 3.0.3 renders FL Studio 20.5 useless. Toggling settings within plugin makes it functional again but it was before update without modifying anything. Leaving 4 stars because plugin is hit or miss with key detection and BPM is never accurate but otherwise very useful, better window scaling has been implemented, and of course a great price. Still would recommend to a buddy especially at a even better price than usual!! Patiently waiting on 3.0.4!!!!

YaRule says:

its great for vocals

William says:

Excelente plugin

Abel Serra says:

Now works perfectly. Great pluggin!!

manh says:

Great tool to help me write music from my acapella!!!

Hans says:

Accuracy is the most important part here. There are natural limits in organically played music, but consider to check segments and instrumental stems individually!

Also, to me very important, this plugin should detect the tuning relative to A440 with highest precision. Perhaps build some average, and exclude obvious pitch bends and vibratos in playing by the instrumentalist, or by the singer.
It should exactly tell, if some piano or guitar part is +37 cent or anything.

ziryab says:

indice de aciertos bastante bajo, falla mucho en mi opinion, deberian mejorar AI

hhhhhhh says:

you can do trial instead of demo too easy wooooooooooow

craig violette says:

i bought this hoping that i would be able to see what key samples are in for my MPC software because their is not a tuner and installed to what the word document said for pc that's what i own and tried to open it and it wont even show the whole window it just shows half of the cords part and nothing else cant expand it or shrink it in and i will say i probably will not be buying any more of you plug ins

Diego says:

Gran plugin

Michel Mischke says:

Doesnt work at all, it cant tell you either the key nor the bpm…. doesnt even sees a difference between major and minor…. i hope there will be some updates, but if you read this, better dont buy it!

Daniel Casuso says:

Works nice for Key and BPM. Chords depend of the content.

Jimmy says:

Great idea, deplorable execution. Could be, would be, should be much better. Gui is attractive. But the software is CLUNKY! Does not work appropriately as marketed smh, and that is very unfortunate. It does not properly evaluate, & or read the musical data with high level efficiency. Its a 2 & a half, to at best a 3. But could easily be a 5 if they actually FIXED the erratic nature of this plugin. As for HoRNet plugins overall, the ones iv'e purchased thus far, about 30% of them have worked correctly out of the 7, 8 i own including the freebies as well

The "HoRNet 31" Band EQ does NOT work/register, & or process musical data in real time, & will barely show proper read out information per bands in Spectrum, so you don't know, can't tell what the musical references are saying thru/by way of fed audio materials. When i adjusted the "Miliseconds" real time performance rate it worked a bit more cohesively, but not well enuff to notice any real improvement. The "Auto EQ" mode does not work properly. The Algo's are solid. But the "Static, Continuous" modes seem to perform decently enough, but bkz you can tell what the real time info is saying in the Spectrum bands you struggle to identify what has improved sonicly and what sounds the same in frequency.

These plug ins are what they are. As they say, you pay for what you get! Most are CHEAPLY made, and poorly executed. SOME work extremely well such as the VU MK4 which has been a miracle worker for helping me gain stage my tracks during mixing.

Even the FREE frequency analyzer does not read the real time informations from the source material well! It's as if these plugins were made of junk parts, Algo's, with maybe one or two here and there that is impressive in performance. But i have to be HONEST and say for the most part i am very DISAPPOINTED in the overall quality of these plugins bkz conceptual they have the right intension, but again, it's poor effort in execution that destroys the potential, and integrity of the Brand name.

Now, bkz i know i may get a "Lemon" plugin, or possibly luck up & get one that actually works well, & helps my work flow as we say in America, meaning something that LOOKS GOOD on the outside, but has CRAPPY PARTS under the hood. Once you pay your STUCK with a vehicle that cosmetically looks better than it actually runs.

Alex Picciafuochi says:

As always, in full HoRNet tradition, another useful plug-in!
If I can make a wish: I would like to have a stand-alone version, so that I can write the details, such as the BPM or even the Key of the Song, already on the work session folder, thanks 🙂

Tom says:

High hopes for this plugin. Glad I didn't spend much money on it as it needs some massive work with it's detection. Both key and BPM it seems are accurate about 5-15% of the time for me which is not good. Hope they can improve on it's functionality. Like other reviews here it just doesn't cut it for being accurate at all.

Kacper Dłużnik says:

lagging so bad (fl studio 20)

Kevin Fluhler says:

I loved Songkey MK2 anti bought MK3, but it automatically spikes my CPU. I use Maschine on Windows.

Guido Mora says:

I was really happy at first, but I am noticing that it doesn't recognize the song key correctly nor the BPM, so it actually confuses the whole thing. Hopefully they'll make an update that'll work, for I cannot rely on it for now.

Leopoldo Juninho says:

Can't seem to figure out MIDI OUT for the life of me…
