HoRNet Plugins is excited to announce the release of VU Meter MK3 Version 3.0.8, an essential update for our VU meter plugin that is specifically designed to streamline gain staging in your audio production workflow. Whether you’re recording, mixing, or mastering, accurate and reliable gain staging is essential to maintain the integrity and clarity of your sound. This plugin, with its auto gain functionality, makes it easy to ensure your signal levels are consistent and optimal throughout your session. The 3.0.8 version of VU Meter MK3 brings a series of fixes and enhancements that improve its functionality and performance, ensuring it works seamlessly in your preferred digital audio workstation (DAW).
The 3.0.8 version of VU Meter MK3 includes several critical fixes and optimizations, enhancing the user experience and making the plugin even more stable and reliable. Let’s take a closer look at the key updates in this release:
One of the most notable improvements in VU Meter MK3 3.0.8 is the resolution of an issue that occurred in Pro Tools. Previously, users reported that when the auto gain function was activated, the gain value of every instance of the plugin would be set to the same value after the auto calculation. This bug caused serious workflow disruptions, especially in larger sessions where different tracks require different gain settings. With this update, the auto gain function now works correctly, ensuring that each instance of the plugin retains its intended settings, and gain is calculated properly for each track or bus. This fix is crucial for users relying on auto gain to streamline their work and maintain optimal levels across a session.
Another significant fix addressed in this update relates to Reason. Users working with multiple instances of the VU Meter MK3 plugin in Reason had reported high CPU usage and instances where the audio engine stopped unexpectedly. These issues caused performance degradation, especially in larger projects with several instances of the plugin running simultaneously. This problem could lead to stuttering, dropouts, and crashes, severely disrupting the creative process. The 3.0.8 version fixes these performance issues, improving the plugin’s efficiency and ensuring that it doesn’t overload your CPU, allowing for smooth operation even in complex projects.
In addition to these key fixes, VU Meter MK3 3.0.8 introduces several improvements to overall plugin stability. These updates are designed to ensure that the plugin performs optimally in various DAWs and configurations, whether you’re working on small or large sessions. The improved stability reduces the likelihood of unexpected behavior and helps prevent disruptions during your session, giving you the peace of mind that your tools are working reliably. This is especially important for professional environments where time is money, and every minute counts.
VU Meter MK3 is more than just a simple VU meter; it’s a powerful tool designed to help you control and monitor your signal levels throughout your audio production. Maintaining proper gain staging is critical, especially when working with analog emulation plugins or processing effects that may introduce distortion or other unwanted artifacts if the levels are too high or too low. Here’s a closer look at the key features that make VU Meter MK3 an invaluable tool for both beginners and seasoned professionals:
One of the standout features of VU Meter MK3 is its auto gain staging functionality. This feature automatically adjusts the gain to ensure your signal peaks at the desired level, eliminating the need for constant manual adjustments. This is especially useful when working with multiple tracks and ensuring that your levels remain consistent throughout the production process. With the auto gain feature, you can set the level to a range between -3 and +3 VU, keeping your signals within an optimal range without clipping.
Another key feature of VU Meter MK3 is its ability to provide accurate loudness metering. The plugin displays a clear and intuitive VU meter that measures the perceived loudness of your signal over time. This is particularly important during the recording and mixing phases, as it allows you to monitor how loud your signal is in relation to other tracks in your session. Accurate loudness metering helps to prevent distortion and ensures that your mix doesn’t become overcrowded with overly loud elements.
The VU Meter MK3 also offers a calibration setting that allows you to adjust the 0VU point to match the optimal level for your A/D converters. By default, this setting is calibrated to -18dBFS, which is a common standard for most digital audio interfaces. However, every A/D converter has its own specifications, and you can adjust the calibration according to your specific hardware. This ensures that the levels being fed into your system are correctly matched to your converter’s headroom, preventing overload and distortion that could negatively impact your audio quality.
The user interface of VU Meter MK3 is clean, straightforward, and easy to navigate, making it accessible for both beginners and experienced engineers alike. The plugin’s intuitive layout ensures that you can focus on your music without getting distracted by complex controls. Whether you’re using the plugin to monitor levels in real-time or fine-tune the gain staging in your session, VU Meter MK3 simplifies the process.
VU Meter MK3 is compatible with a wide range of DAWs, ensuring that you can integrate it into your workflow regardless of the software you use. Whether you’re working in Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic Pro, or Reason, VU Meter MK3 delivers reliable performance, giving you confidence in your gain staging and loudness measurements no matter what environment you’re working in.
If you’re an existing user of VU Meter MK3, the 3.0.8 update is available for free. To download the update, simply log into your user area on the HoRNet Plugins website and access the latest version. If you are using an earlier version of the plugin, this update is highly recommended to resolve the bugs and enjoy the improved functionality.
The VU Meter MK3 Version 3.0.8 update brings several important fixes that improve both the stability and functionality of the plugin. The resolution of issues such as the auto gain reset in Pro Tools and high CPU usage in Reason will help improve the overall workflow for users of these DAWs. The auto gain staging and loudness metering features of the plugin remain at the core of its value, helping users maintain optimal levels during both the recording and mixing processes. The latest update further solidifies VU Meter MK3 as an indispensable tool for any audio engineer or music producer looking to improve their gain staging and signal monitoring.
In Logic, group changes are transmitted only when the playback is running. this is a limitation of logic itself.
My group settings don't seem to work as they should in Logic pro X. eg. when I change a setting the other plugins don't follow suit.. though it works fine manually
