HoRNet releases SpringVerb, a physically modeled spring reverb

HoRNet plugins announces the immediate availability of SpringVerb, an algorithmic spring reverb that uses physical models.

HoRNet SpringVerb recreates the classic sound of spring reverbs found in guitar amplifiers and vintage gear. It also allows you to change the physical properties of the springs to create a custom sound.

The spring reverb was developed along with plate reverb in the 1930s as a way to create artificial reverberation. It gained popularity through Hammond organs, which adopted this type of reverb because of its small size. This compact form factor led many guitar amplifier manufacturers to adopt spring reverbs as well. Since then, its sound has become a significant part of recording history.

We approached the recreation of this unique sound by combining research papers with our own innovations. With SpringVerb, you can adjust every aspect of the springs themselves. You can change the intrinsic vibration time, which determines the reverb length, and the damping of the springs, which affects the decay time. The resonance and brightness controls let you alter the self-resonance point of the spring and the highest frequency it can reach. Both of these controls also influence how the reverb propagates inside the spring.

We also added a dry/wet mix control and a diffusion control. While diffusion isn’t a physical property of spring behavior, it helps achieve different sound characteristics, ranging from more lush to more metallic tones.

You can also adjust the number of springs, which changes the behavior of the reverb. With one spring, you get a mono reverb with a bouncy sound. Two springs provide a stereo reverb, while three springs create a full, shimmering sound.

HoRNet SpringVerb is available now for just 12,99€
