HoRNet TotalEQ 1.3.4 Update: Precision EQ with Modern Compatibility

We’re excited to announce the release of HoRNet TotalEQ version 1.3.4, a significant update that enhances both performance and compatibility for modern production environments. As always, our goal with every update is to ensure that our plugins meet the highest standards of stability, efficiency, and workflow integration for today’s audio professionals. This latest version builds upon the powerful foundation of TotalEQ, while introducing several key changes to ensure long-term compatibility with the latest systems.

One of the most notable improvements in version 1.3.4 is the addition of native AAX support for Apple Silicon. This change means that users working with Pro Tools on Apple’s latest ARM-based Macs can now enjoy seamless integration and native performance, free from the limitations of translation layers or compatibility wrappers. With the move to Apple Silicon becoming the standard across the industry, this update ensures that TotalEQ is fully optimized for current and future Mac hardware.

In addition to this major enhancement, we’ve also removed VST2.4 support, aligning TotalEQ with the evolving standards of plugin development. While VST2.4 was an important format in its time, modern plugin hosts and operating systems are moving away from this outdated standard in favor of newer, more efficient protocols. By retiring VST2.4, we can focus our efforts on supporting and improving VST3, AAX, and Audio Unit versions of the plugin—formats that offer better performance, compatibility, and user experience.

Alongside these compatibility updates, we’ve also raised the minimum macOS requirement for TotalEQ to version 10.13 (High Sierra) or later. This ensures better alignment with current system libraries and provides a more stable and modern development foundation. For most users, this change will be completely seamless, as macOS 10.13 was released in 2017 and is supported by all modern Mac systems still in use today.

Despite these backend improvements, the core experience of HoRNet TotalEQ remains unchanged—and that’s a good thing. TotalEQ continues to offer 12 fully parametric EQ bands, each of which can be individually configured with different filter types, Q values, gain settings, and frequency ranges. Each band can also be toggled between digital precision and analog emulation, providing the flexibility to move between clinical surgical work and warm, musical tone shaping.

What sets TotalEQ apart from other equalizers is its intuitive interface. Users can make changes directly by interacting with the graphical frequency display, allowing real-time feedback and a streamlined workflow. Rather than hunting through drop-down menus or sliders, you can simply click and drag on the frequency spectrum to shape your sound with surgical accuracy or broad, musical strokes.

Each of the 12 bands also supports dynamic EQ functionality, borrowing from our acclaimed DynEQ plugin. This allows users to apply EQ changes that respond dynamically to the input signal’s amplitude, offering incredible precision when controlling harsh transients or smoothing uneven frequency content. This makes TotalEQ an ideal choice for both corrective and creative audio work.

Another powerful feature of TotalEQ is its support for Mid/Side processing. You can independently EQ the mid and side portions of the stereo field, giving you full control over the spatial balance and stereo image of your track. Whether you’re enhancing stereo width or tightening up the center, this feature lets you shape your sound in three dimensions.

For even greater realism and character, TotalEQ includes an advanced analog emulation engine. When enabled, this feature adds subtle harmonic distortion and component-level variation to each band, simulating the unpredictable behavior of analog circuits. These small imperfections contribute to a more natural, organic sound that can help your mixes feel more alive.

You’ll also find global controls that allow you to toggle analog emulation and saturation for all bands at once. There’s even a linked input/output mode, which lets you push the EQ harder while automatically adjusting output gain to maintain consistent levels. This makes it easy to drive the analog engine without having to constantly rebalance your gain staging.

The plugin also includes a built-in spectrum analyzer, giving you clear, real-time insight into your audio signal. Whether you’re making corrective EQ moves or trying to visually identify frequency buildups, the analyzer helps you work faster and more confidently. The updated version 1.3.4 even includes bug fixes related to spectrum display issues, improving its clarity and usability across various systems.

Here’s a summary of what’s new in TotalEQ 1.3.4:

  • Added native AAX support for Apple Silicon, ensuring smooth use with Pro Tools on the latest Mac systems.

  • Removed VST2.4 support to align with modern plugin development standards.

  • Updated minimum macOS requirement to version 10.13 High Sierra or later.
